Session 76, part 1

3rd of Land’s Blessing

Glod works through the night, translating one more page:

“Any luck last night?” Gante asks, getting his armor together.

“Well, whatever these hollows are, some of them burn. That’s encouraging. Also some speculation about wizards duels. It didn’t seem connected.”

“Well, hopefully some of it will start to make sense soon,” Kerwyn says.

“Well based on the fact that some burn, that also implies that some don’t, so not as encouraging,” Gante adds.

“Anyway. I need to think a bit. I was up all night and I feel like I’ve made breakthroughs in more than just translating.”

Mathus barges into the room. “Well it’s about time you guys got up. I thought you’d be sleeping all day.”

So says the man who’s been sick for the past few days…”

“Maybe if I didn’t have to jump into a freezing river to save your sorry hide, we wouldn’t have that kind of trouble.”

“Now, now,” Kerwyn says. “We’ve got a long trip ahead, so let’s try and not fight until at least the afternoon.”

“Sounds good, let’s get marlak and get a move on.”

“Old Man Geezer’s waiting for you downstairs.”

“Watch that mouth,” Epona says. “He could teleport you into a volcano if he wanted to, probably.”

The adventurers collect their things and head downstairs. Marlak is sitting at a table, looking out the window. “Ah, good morning. What’s on the agenda today?”

“Places to go, dead people to contact,” Epona says.

“So we’re heading to Karkin today?”

“Barring the unforeseen, yes,” Kerwyn says.

They leave the inn and walk into the warm, summer morning air.The town is already hard at work on reconstruction of buildings and commerce, and many of the destroyed building are taking back their familiar forms. With plenty to take care of ahead, you leave the city and take to the road.

Epona, taking up the back, admires her new ring, which appears to float in the air. “Hey guys, let’s make up a codeword.”

Kerwyn turns around, giving the now-visible cleric a curious look. “That seems a bit random…”

“If I ever turn from invisible to visible, I’ll say ‘weather’s nice today,’ then Quoth can see if anyone or anything strange is around.”

“Ah, but what if the weather is exceptionally nice?” Kerwyn says.

“Well, I like the idea,” Glod says. “So I’m trying to research some new spells. Do you guys have any suggestions?”

“How about something that’ll shut him up,” Mathus says, gesturing to the paladin.

“We havn’t found anything for that yet, I’m afraid,” Kerwyn says, smiling.

“Perhaps one of you’d like to give it a go?”

“Oh come on Gante, you know we just love listening to you ramble on. It helps to pass the time.”

“I’d like to see you give a speech like I did to those sailors.”

“I could, if I really wanted to. It’s just I don’t,” Kerwyn says.

“Uh huh, the only men that would follow you are prison guards,” Gante says.

“Yeah, because there simple, down-to-earth men who don’t want to hear someone give a long speech about how nice and pretty things will be if only we march into a goblin held town and fight them with our bare hands.”

“Or they’re out hunting you down to put you in prison for stealing dwarven paintings…”

“Well, if I stole something, and if they were hunting me down, then that would be very unwise of them.”

“That may be, that may be. Since I suppose I didn’t see you take it, but I did see you sell it.”

“That’s right. I sold a legitimately gained item in a fair and equitable transaction.”

Marlak whispers to Epona. “How long exactly will they keep this up?”
